Welcome to this weeks S-O-S everything is pretty much back to normal after a hectic few weeks. The featured artist for this show is Baltimore native Devon Howard his "Return To Love" album is just wonderful, so I had to share this with you. I have selected three tracks, but rest assured others will follow over the coming weeks.

My legend Radio network brother just shared a couple of great albums with me the latest set from one time member of Men At Large's David Tolliver, pretty impressive I must say, expect more from this over the coming weeks. Miami's soul man Urban Mystic has just released an album that's paying homage to the legends of the past. I am never a great fan of remakes but I have to say this album is pretty darn good.

Mickey recently acquired two classic Deluxe Manhattans albums from there early 70's period, sooooo good to be able to hear these in great sound quality, you know I am a BIG fan of these guys so I have indulged myself and included a couple of tracks. (Well it is my show, lol.) Look out for recent releases from JBarnes Remington & Jimmy Allgood and the UK's own Diane Shaw plus all the classics we love.

Devon Howard biography:

Straight out of Baltimore, Maryland, DEVON HOWARD is keeping it hot. As a singer, songwriter and producer he is a triple threat placing him way ahead of the game. DEVON is walking in the footsteps of some of the most recognized artists our time, all whom have had an impact on his style. Baby Face, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, El DeBarge, Usher and Ne-Yo, all triple threats in their own right. El DeBarge and Babyface was the first male singers he related to vocally. Their smooth, sensual, passionate voices were something he wanted to emulate as a singer but, with his own style. He is also influenced by Michael Jackson’s innovative style and creativity.
DEVON’s style is fresh, edgy, laid back and smooth. He brings a flavor reminiscent of old school but, with a modern twist. He’s had a lifetime of practice. DEVON has been writing songs since childhood. Songwriting comes naturally to him. Inspired by his late father, who was also a songwriter, he grew up listening to his father’s collection: The Manhattans, The Stylistics, and The Commodores. DEVON got his start in the music industry performing with various groups and eventually wrote and performed with a local group who recorded their debut CD on the RCA label. . The group has appeared on many of the popular music shows including Soul Train, Apollo and BET. SWV and Wendy Williams appeared in the group’s first video and Malcolm Jamal Warner directed the second. Devon also worked with industry vets Ron Fair (Keyshia Cole) and Vincent Herbert (Lady Gaga, Tamar Braxton) on the group’s debut CD. Back to normal for this weeks Science of Soul after being away for a couple of weeks, I was so honored to be the first non American to be invited to present an award at the R&B Hall of Fame awards held last weekend in Detroit. You will find lots of music from these inducted legends in this weeks show. It was an amazing event so we have decided to share a bunch of pictures with you just give you a little flavor of it all. I was also invited to appear on The Brenda Perryman show once again, it's always a pleasure to see Ms Perryman, her show is one of the most popular morning TV shows in metro Detroit.

JB Bingham biography:

In 1976, James B. Bingham the former lead singer of the group Five Flight's Up recorded 7 songs under the auspices of H.B. Barnum and Steve Binder. Binder then offered the fruits of this session to the United Artists label. Out of the 7 songs presented to them the powers that be only chose to pick up 4 songs which they released on two 45 singles "All Alone By The Telephone/Live And You Learn" (UA-XW1059)and "She's Gone/Keep On Walking" (UA-XW872-Y)which subsequently left three tracks silting unused in the can. A situation later rectified when in 2013 we at Soul Junction contacted firstly J.B. Bingham and then H.B. Barnum which lead to the final release of two of the U.A rejects "People On A Ego Trip/She's On Strike" on a popular and now long deleted 45 single.
Therefore we had one track left at our disposal "Fellas, Don't Let The Girls Take Over" J.B's upbeat and light hearted warning song to the men of the world to shape and not be swept aside by the growing women's liberation movement! That left us with the dilemma of what to use for a b-side, this situation thus being solved by the inclusion of J.B's timeless modern soul anthem "All Alone By The Telephone" as the flipside. R&B Hall Of Fame

Welcome to this Science of Soul Old Skool special. I will be in Detroit for the R&B Hall of Fame ceremony when this show goes out on air .. it will be back to normal next week I got a ton of great new music to share with you. I will give you all the scoops on the the event and hopefully a bunch of great pictures so you can get the flavor.

Had a great time on the Brenda Perryman's Detroit TV show on Friday morning ... I have been asked to present Edwin Starr's Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame award to his son Andre at Sundays ceremony, feeling very honoured to do that. On 27th September 2015, Houston, Texas, founding Crusaders band member, Wilton Felder  died. Wilton was 75. Wilton had been suffering from cancer.
Word of Wilton’s passing was posted on Ray Parker, Jr.’s Facebook page. He was a proficient saxophone and bass player for, firstly, The Jazz Crusaders, who later became The Crusaders.

My thanks go out to Mickey who does such a great job keeping everything rolling in my absence his dedication runs way beyond the call of duty. Ok sit back lets take a trip to the good old days, it's sure to bring back a flood of memories - I know it did for me :-)

Welcome to this weeks Science of Soul, my apologizes if you tried to reach me in the Studio during the Show but occasionally I have to pre-record the odd one, due to other commitments, on this occasion it's the Northern Soul Survivors Weekend in Skegness, so I am sure you will forgive me. There's a great line up of classic soul acts including; The Contours, The Velvelettes, Kim Weston and Prince Phillip Mitchell, so I could not miss this one.

RIP - Ben Causey

I am saving the new music for the next live show but could not resist playing the new single from Angie Stone...she is sounding great I cant wait for the album.

Sad news this week is that founding member of the legendary Bar Kays' Ben Cauley has passed away aged 67, Ben was the sole survivor of the plane crash that took the life of Otis Redding and four of the other Bar-Kays members at that time, he continued to keep the soul flag flying .. he will be missed.
