Soul Festival Four

Welcome to this special edition of the Science of Soul as we celebrate the men of Soul appearing at the Blackpool International Soul Festival that runs June 14th through to 16th with a great line up of Soul Music legends Prince Phillip Mitchell, Randy Brown, Eddie Holman and Ronnie Mcneir, I have dedicated the second hour of the show to there amazing music as mark of respect. Also on the bill is Motown lady Brenda Holloway and if you go to my mix cloud page you will find an interview I did with Brenda around 25 yrs ago, originally recorded for Mickey Nold's PCRL radio show and a big shout out to Mickey who converted this from original tapes to digital format, Mickey was the producer and editor of the original interview.

New music on this weeks show includes Lomax and J Barnes Remington representing Georgia and from Toronto Canada we have ColdJack . This weeks show will be the last live show for a couple of weeks due to my impending Detroit trip for the R&B Hall of Fame Ceremony on Sunday June 23rd it will be back to normal June 30th thank you for your continued support. November 10th see's the WMEL Music awards in Baltimore Maryland, It's a great line up this year honouring the legends that came out of the Baltimore and DC area see attached press release. 2019 WMEL Radio Honors
 “A Tale of Two Cities”
[Baltimore, MD – 6/06/19] – WMEL Radio, founded in 2012, has announced its Class of 2019 Honorees at the third annual WMEL Radio Honors, “Honoring the Legends of Soul and R&B” ceremony.  This year WMEL Radio will honor members of the legends of Soul and R&B from Baltimore, MD & Washington DC.
The event will be held at the American Legion Post #285 located at 2324 McElderry Street, in Baltimore, MD on Sunday, November 10.  The ceremony begins at 5:00 PM.
Co-Founders Gamel “DJ Mel’ Moore & Jowan Larue started WMEL Radio, an internet station, in May of 2012.  WMEL Radio is currently celebrating its 7th anniversary.  You can listen to WMEL Radio on Tunein.com
Since 2015, WMEL Radio has honored over 20 world renowned Soul and R&B legends. This year’s class include: The Softones, First Class, Billy Stewart, Don Covay, Bobby Starr of The Intruders, Damon Harris of The Temptations, Panama, Hardway Connection, The Four Jewels, Crosswind, The Whatnauts & The Choice Four
In addition to the inductees, WMEL Radio will bestow the prestigious “Aretha Franklin Legacy Award” to recording artists Karen Linette &   “The Empress of R&B” Natasha C. Coward.  
The Dells Award of Excellence” will be presented to vocal group The Softones

John Gary Williams & Willie Ford

Welcome to this weeks Science of Soul, It's not been a great week, we have lost two legends of our music Willie Ford of The Dramatics who was a personal friend and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet, I am so sad about his passing. We have also lost John Gary Williams lead singer of the Mad Lads tho he may not be a household name his contribution to soul music will out live us all...RIP Willie and Gary.
