Thanks again for stopping by my Science of Soul blogcast, this week I'll be featuring the new album from living legend Mr Will Downing, "The Promise" its the albums name and has all the usual Will trade marks; great production, super smooth vocals, but with a great bunch of gospel flavoured tunes. I think its gonna go down as a classic. On the new music score this week I've added have two beautiful young ladies  with Ms Chelsea Wilson from Australia, and LA Young from Maryland.  Representing the fella's a Southern soulman Lamorris Williams with his new single that also features Terry Harris and the constantly great Stone Paxton  ..  I think you will enjoy. Welcome to this edition of The Science of Soul. On this weeks show I have two featured albums because I just could not decide between Calvin Richardson's new set "All or Nothing" and Will Downing's latest "Soul Survivor" so I decided to feature both. They are two very different artists but both are the real deal when it comes to making quality music, both albums are highly recommended.

There is new music from Kea Michaels you will remember we also featured the new single from this lady last week. Look out for a couple of tracks by Ronn Jaimz his excellent album "Back to Basics" came out back in 2015 but as only just come to my attention thanks to Mickey Nold, don't know how I missed this first time around, but better late than never. There's a whole loud of classics for you to enjoy, in particular listen out for Freddie Waters, Gaslight and J Kelly & The Premiers. I am counting down to the UK leg of Tower of Powers' European tour, and will be seeing the guys next week .. just can't wait. OK it's music time hit the play button and enjoy.

This weeks Science of Soul is dedicated to Mr Vaughn Harper the silky voice of WBLS radio in New York City, Vaughn was a real pioneer of the Quiet Storm style of radio, his voice was instantly recognizable, he was one of NYC's most loved DJ's and a major influence on many and one of my personal radio hero's. He Passed on Saturday July 9th he was 71 yrs old and still doing his THANG...R.I.P. my friend.

Featured Artist this week will be Will Downing, his latest set "Black Diamonds" is getting rave revues, Its not hard to see why Will's vocals are faultless and the productions are rich and full, If I have any criticism its that I wish he would record more original songs the remake format is growing a little tired for me. But hey it's just my observation and I still enjoy his interpretations of the classics.

If your in the Detroit area you need to get down to the Northern Lights lounge on W. Baltimore for the Melvin Davis soul fest on Monday August 29th, Pat Lewis, Joe Harris, Carolyn Crawford, Drew Schultz and Jay Butler...you know I gotta be there.

Welcome to this weeks Science of Soul because I've got a packed show for you this week. I will be featuring Will Downing's excellent new album entitled, "Chocolate Drop", Will is right back at the top of his game for this set it's smooth and sweet just as Will's fans like him. I have to say I love Will's interpretation of the Bobby Taylor classic "Does Your Mama Know About Me" that song was such a powerful statement back in the day, In fact it got me thinking about my old friend Bobby so I thought we would include a great tv spot from Bobby that was broadcast by a TV station in Hong Kong were Bobby now lives. You will find it at the bottom of the page. Back to Mr Downing; It was very hard to pick 3 tracks but I consoled myself by thinking; "its okay I can play more over the coming weeks" .... and rest assured I will.

Kenny Lattimore makes a welcome return, I'm loving his new single "You Have My Heart" and had to include this in the show, but I've not had a chance to listen to his new album yet, but looking forward to it. I'm sure you are aware we lost another Soul legend in Chicago's own Billy Butler this month, so I pay tribute to his legacy, he will be forever remembered for the stomping classic "The Right Track" but I thought I would show the more mellow side of this very underrated man. Condolences to his family.

Great news that London Soul man Da'Paul Phillips as won the Rocket Fuel Unsigned Artist Award!  so not have I only included a track from his 2013 set "Soulful Spirit" as a website special you can find a great documentary video about the launch of his forthcoming album. You will find it lower down the page so take a few minutes to enjoy this very talented young man.

Will Downing (born Wilfred Downing, November 29, 1963, Brooklyn, New York),  is an American singer, songwriter and producer. Downing is known in the contemporary jazz and R&B music genres for his rich baritone vocals, and his interpretations of R&B and pop classics that stretch back to the early 1980s. Downing is married to singer Audrey Wheeler, who has collaborated with various musicians as a back-up singer and was previously a member of the short lived R&B group Unlimited Touch. more at wiki
